WordWeb is an extremely useful dictionary and thesaurus containing 150.000 root words, 120,000 synonym sets, pronunciation and many more. The program can be used to look up words in varieties of the English language: International English, American English, British English, Australian English, etc.

In case you look up a word, the results will also include: the word's definition, synonyms, related words and whether the word may be a part of a compound noun. In case you need more extensive data related to a word, you can also check out the online resource: 'Wikipedia', 'Wictionary' or 'WordWeb Online'. Access to all online resource is acquired directly from within the program using Internet Explorer's engine.

You can set bookmarks and customize your searches by setting filters. For example you can st a filter for slang language, so that those words won't be available on display. You can also choose to show only root words.
The program's interface in intuitive and provides a quick access to all its features. You can add words to the thesaurus and copy text to the clipboard. The program is very easy to install and use. After installation, you can select the option of running the program in the tray and bring it up with a hot key of your choice.

Pluses: Besides the features and the extended search capabilities, I was thrilled by the possibility to hear the pronunciation of the words. This is an excellent feature valued by non English natives or people who learn to speak English.

WordWeb Pro is a quick and powerful international English thesaurus and dictionary for Windows. It can be used to lookup words from almost any Windows program, showing definitions, synonyms and related words. There are also many proper nouns and usage examples. You can search for words matching a pattern, find and solve anagrams, and optionally search a large number of extra word lists.
Unlike any paper dictionary or thesaurus WordWeb is truly a Word Web - each set of synonyms is linked to other related sets. Lookup "tree", click on the "Types" tab and you'll have a list of different types of tree. Click on "Part of" and WordWeb will tell you that a tree can be part of a "forest" or "wood".
Unlike any online dictionary, WordWeb allows you to dynamically filter words to find what you want. For example clicking on a sense number shows only synonyms and related words for that word sense. Clicking on the "Noun" button filters the synonyms to show you only noun senses, and double clicking on any word takes you immediately to its definition. It will also suggest the correct form for many common misspellings.

Uniblue PowerSuite combines Uniblue's SpeedUpMyPC, RegistryBooster and DriverScanner, which are also available individually, into one PC system utilities application. Each part of this application stands on its own rather than serving as part of a single application with features that work together to help improve the performance of your system; Uniblue PowerSuite essentially serves as a shortcut. As a result, you’re missing important features for repairing your hard drive, optimizing your memory and recovering data. On the other hand, the features in this PC system utilities application are useful and it’s nice to have them all in one place.

Management/Diagnostics: 

Uniblue PowerSuite PC system utilities have excellent management options for the application as a whole and for each feature specifically. In the main screen of this application, you’re presented with an overview of the most recent scan results from Registry Booster, SpeedUpMyPC and Driver Scanner. On the left side of the screen, there’s a running tally of how many registry errors you’ve cleaned, speed issues you’ve fixed and drivers you’ve updated. You can also schedule for each feature to perform scans at different intervals.

DriverScanner is superb a driver update feature that functions as an integral part of Uniblue PowerSuite. This application checks a list of 11 types of devices to see if all their device drivers are up-to-date. While most of these devices were easy to define, we had difficulty figuring out what exactly “Other devices” meant. This feature also displays a history of drivers you’ve downloaded, lets you exclude certain drivers from the process and gives you the ability to roll your system back to its previously working state in case something goes wrong when you install a new driver.

Repair/Recovery: 

RegistryBooster is a top of the line registry repairing tool. It scans your registry looking for errors specific to your Windows account. Each category of errors splits into a list of individual types of registry keys. All in all, this feature scans 15 types of registry keys in an effort to find every invalid or erroneous entry. It also allows you to exclude sections of the registry from scans, view a log of the errors you’ve repaired and undo any changes you’ve made to the registry.

Optimization: 

RegistryBooster does a superb job of defragmenting the registry as well. This PC system utilities application’s registry defragmenter takes more time than similar tools and requires you restart your computer when it’s finished. This feature is strange, though, because it doesn’t tell you what it’s doing. While other registry defragmenters specify what parts of the registry they’re defragmenting, this feature just says it’s defragmenting the registry. It would be easier for users to recover from disaster after defragmenting the registry if they knew what was being done to it.

SpeedUpMyPC performs a series of system tweaks, uses speed tools and deletes junk files to improve the speed of your system. This feature is perhaps the most intricate and effective feature in Uniblue PowerSuite. The system tweaks section adjusts over 20 system settings and Windows services, going deeper than this PC system utilities application’s other features. When we implemented the changes this feature recommended, we noticed a significant improvement in our system’s performance.

Ease of Use: 

Uniblue PowerSuite has easy-to-use features, but its interface is a little disjointed. The main screen for this application is essentially a portal to the other features in this application. You can’t switch from one feature to another without the first closing the current feature and returning to the main screen. This PC system utilities application would he much easier to use if you were able to move freely through it.

Help & Support: 

Uniblue provides you with product manuals and a frequently asked questions section for every part of this PC system utilities application. You’re bound to find more information in the user manuals than the frequently asked questions sections, though. If you can’t find your answer in either one of these resources, you can submit a support ticket to one of their customer service representatives.

Summary:

Uniblue PowerSuite is a strong PC system utilities application if you analyze each of its parts individually, but when you zoom out and look at the application as a whole, it doesn’t look quite as strong because it only has features for repairing the registry, optimizing your system and updating device drivers. Our favorite feature was SpeedUpMyPC because it provides you with solid tools for making your computer run faster. RegistryBooster and DriverScanner are solid features in their own right. However, additional features like memory optimization and data recovery would really add value to this application’s feature set.
